Tracking Device
Steel, antique lawn-mower, paint rollers, shoe soles
55” x 26 ” x 12"
2008

The tracking device is an offset printing press made out of an old push -style lawnmower. Two shoe soles are affixed to the rolling drum which contacts paint rollers affixed above the rolling drum. The paint rollers are charged with paint, which runs down from the paint trough. The device is pushed over paper to lay down shoe sole tracks.

The viewer is invited to put on a pair of shoes also presented with the tracking device. The shoes (which range in sizes) have the same soles as the ones on the rolling drum. As the viewer walks the device across the paper they must either step in the printed tracks or side step them. The resulting print is the viewer's to keep.
