Input
Medical labels on wood
23”x 39”
2006

As the viewer observes Input, they search for some way in which to understand the work before them.  The manner in which they do so is significant to understanding how any mind approaches the new, or the unknown, and as such, is also personal to each viewer.  While some will search for words in the work, others will focus on the colors and patterns displayed.  As one technique fails, others may be applied, looking for the work to reveal a hidden image or other code.  The truth is that the work was created using a randomized system of creation so that each label’s placement was just as likely as any others. The result is a work that exposes the mind of the viewer and their means of understanding.
